You think you've planned the perfect extreme day trip... but Mother Nature has other ideas. šŸ„µāœˆļø

It sounded like such a good idea when we booked the earliest flight out and the last flight home from Pisa. I'd saved so many reels and had a full itinerary planned for the day.

The weather, however, had other ideas.

When we landed at 9:30am, it was lovely. But by the time we'd got through the airport, taken the PisaMover into town and stopped for something to eat, the temperature had hit 32°C... and it was absolutely boiling.

Now, a sensible person would have jumped in a taxi or caught the bus to the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Me? Absolutely not.

I made everyone walk for half an hour in the midday heat. šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø By the time we arrived, we were all hot, sweaty and slightly regretting our life choices. My sister and I claimed a shady spot and barely moved, while the kids explored, took loads of photos and went inside the cathedral.

By around 6pm, we'd recovered enough for some drinks and snacks before heading back to the airport.

Getting a taxi was a whole adventure in itself. Uber wanted over €150 for five of us, or around €80 if we split into two cars. We ignored the app, went to the taxi rank instead and got two taxis for just €19 each. Definitely the bargain of the day!

Then came the final hurdle... our 9:55pm flight was delayed until 11:15pm, and we didn't actually take off until after midnight.

When we finally landed at Stansted, everyone sailed through the eGates... except my niece, who was sent back to the manual immigration desk. šŸ˜…

We eventually walked through our front door just after 3am.

Looking back, if the weather had been a little kinder, we could have seen so much more of Pisa in the time we had. But every trip teaches you something.

Lesson learned: maybe don't plan an extreme day trip in the middle of summer... and definitely don't make everyone walk 30 minutes in 32°C heat! šŸ˜‚

Safe to say, extreme day trips are off the agenda for a little while... until I inevitably convince myself it's a good idea again. šŸ˜‰
